We provide our students with high quality SAT-Preparation services for the following three reasons:
- SAT scores are an important factor in college admissions.
- Skills needed to excel on the SAT are also important to college and career success.
- SAT scores are a major factor in most colleges’ decisions concerning both honors program status and merit scholarship awards.
The Holy Name SAT-Prep program is comprehensive, including early acclimation through practice testing, targeted course work, and high quality SAT-Prep services.
By participating in the College Board “SAT Suite of Assessments” protocol, Holy Name enables all students to build familiarity with the SAT by taking an official Practice SAT in 8’th, 9’th and 10’th grades.
2. Course Work
Using student results from Practice SAT’s, Holy Name’s SAT coordinator works with the faculty to both target and refine curriculum to promote SAT success.
3. SAT-Prep Services
Holy Name students have access to over 70 hours of SAT-Prep services, including an
essential skills course,
multiple practice test, and
additional test and topic review.
The Holy Name essential skills course includes 40 hours of instruction designed to help students improve their academic skills, understand the quirks and challenges of the SAT format, and review all content relevant to the SAT. The course concludes with an official College Board practice test and an extensive review of that test.
Building on the foundation of the course, students follow up with individualized study plans to expand their SAT score potentials. About a month before taking their first official SAT Test, students take and review another full practice test. Additionally, students have access to special SAT study sessions devoted to aspects of the test they are trying to improve (e.g. advanced math, essay, etc.). Upon receiving their first official SAT scores, students who decide to take another official SAT are able to take and review another practice test.
