Excitement Builds for 2008-2009

A great deal of interest and excitement about Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School has come with the announcement of the approval by the City of Worcester for a special permit for the construction of a wind turbine on the grounds of Holy Name.  This will be the first wind turbine of its kind in Central Massachusetts, and Holy Name is extremely proud to be at the forefront of environmental technology.  This is a wonderful time for Holy Name High School, the Diocese of Worcester, the City of Worcester and all of Central Massachusetts.

The turbine will provide all of the electricity used on campus and will allow Holy Name to sell electricity back to the grid.  This budget relief will allow Holy Name to improve many of its programs and its physical plant while keeping tuitions affordable for working families.  More importantly, this turbine allows us to be good stewards of God’s gifts.  We are environmentally sound at Holy Name and consider this stewardship to be an important lesson to pass on to our students.  Furthermore, our math, science and technology classes will use this on-site, modern technology to enhance their studies, and our teachers will use the turbine to actively engage students.

This project has already brought great attention and positive public relations to Holy Name High School.  We have seen evidence that this project will increase our visibility and make the public more aware of our great school and our outstanding faculty and programs.  To this end, it is important that our current families respect the re-registration process and especially the Tuition Assistance deadline of April 18.  We are committed to keeping class sizes and graduating class sizes at an educationally sound level.

We need to give thanks to Bishop McManus; Steve Perla, Superintendent of Catholic Schools; Jeff Mulford, Assistant Superintendent and Business Manager of Catholic Schools; and, especially, Mary Riordan, our school’s President, for all their hard work and their dedication to this project and to Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School.

As our ad campaign indicated this year: We are the Future!

God Bless You and Yours this Easter Season,

Edward Reynolds, Headmaster
