MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT
|
All incoming Holy Name students who are taking a math class next school year (this would include every seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grader and seventy-five per cent of incoming seniors) are required to complete a summer assignment before the opening of the school year. These assignments will be collected at the start of the school year by each student’s math instructor; the instructor will review all material with their classes; and students will then be assessed on the material. Student completion of the summer assignment will be graded and combined with their score on the assessment for their first test grade of first quarter. Students should complete the assignment titled for the math class which they have enrolled in for the upcoming school year. As we are currently assessing the viability of our Integrated Math program, students enrolled in Integrated Math I should complete the Algebra I summer assignment, students enrolled in Integrated Math II should complete the Geometry assignment and students enrolled in Integrated Math III should complete the Algebra II/Trigonometry assignment. Also note that students enrolled in either Analysis or Discrete Math should complete the Pre-Calculus summer assignment. All freshmen should complete the Algebra I summer assignment except those students who have tested into Geometry; these students should complete the Geometry summer assignment. These students will be notified of their Geometry placement by their guidance counselor. Incoming freshmen from other schools who have taken the Geometry placement test can contact Mrs. Norgren at 508.753.6371 during the week of June 11 to get their placement. Thank you for your cooperation in the completion of this essential component of Holy Name’s math instruction. |
